Meath V Louth Leinster Final

Replying To WhyTheLongFace:  "Yes, this is true. After Meath beat Dublin, I went on the Hogan Stand Facebook, RTÉ's Facebook, and The Sunday Game's page to check if there were any reports or reactions about the Meath win. But nearly every comment was about Louth-people saying things like "Louth will win it now," "Louth will get their revenge," and "Come on Louth, this is our year." Not a single comment said "Well done Meath." It was all about Louth.

I couldn't get my head around it. We had just beaten Dublin, and yet the focus was on congratulating Louth, as if the job was already done. Most of the Meath lads playing this weekend would still have been in primary school back when Meath played Louth in 2010. At that time, the population of Dunshaughlin was about 3,500-now it's 9,000. A lot has changed in 15 years, but some people clearly haven't moved on.

That said, credit where it's due-Dublin fans were probably the best out of all the rest. They congratulated us on the win and genuinely wished us the best in the final."
The club based Dublin supporters are probably the best you will meet in the country.

Never whinge about been bet, just get on with it.

And your 100% correct, every one of them I know rang me Monday to chat about the game and congratulate us.

Replying To southmeathgael:  "All the pressure on Louth, they simply have to win. The age profile of their players, the road they've been on together now for 5 years or so, 3rd leinster in a row and Dublin finally out of the way, 70 odd years since won a leinster, and finally a chance to gain revenge on Meath for 2010, if they don't win this Sunday they never will."
Cant agree with "If they don't win this Sunday they never will" you obviously haven't been watching the Louth underage teams. They have lots of excellent players coming through, i could not believe how good their 20s and minors were this year. They'll have plenty of chances over the next decade.

I see were you are coming from but history shows Meath have dominated the games between these two teams over the last 50 years or so ? Hoping for a Louth win but Meath to win by 4 or 5 points . I think their will be two changes on the Louth team either end of the field and hopefully Mathew Costello has a off day

Replying To winatallcost:  "I think it's irrelevant where Louth think they are at and talk about 3 years or 5 years or whatever on the road they are. This is a one off game and I think more recent form as in this year and particularly since the championship has started is what counts. The new rules and how football has returned to its more traditional roots counts alot too. I am hoping Meath attack this game and play with freedom, positivity and aggression. Louth are quite a Conservative team and the new rules has really given their defence alot to think about. This is not Inniskeen so there are lots of open spaces. They really only edged over Kildare and Laois so I would give Meath a great chance if they perform. Let's hope they do!"
A very good assessment of the game

Doesn't always translate to winning seniors tho, didn't kildare win 2 u20 all irelands in the last 7 or 8 years and they havnt pushed on at all. The here and now is their best bet, can't be assuming anything from u20 teams

Kildare's underage success not translating to senior level really needs to be studied. The county consistently produces some of the best athletes in Irish sport. I think it ultimately comes down to tradition-Kildare haven't won an All-Ireland at senior level in a very long time. The same could be said for Louth.

I hope your right. Hopefully a good game but don't see louth coming within 5 or 6 points of meath. Meaths midfield will be too strong. Ronan Jones to start?

Surprised by your prediction, my heart says meath but my head says louth winning with a bit to spare. Louth have owned Meath lately, embarrased meath in iniskeen and that was with at least 4 of your best players missing. Meath midfield is a bit overrated I think, Tommy Durnin has proven he is better than any Meath midfielder, Jones out injured apparently, rushed back for the dublin match and re-aggravated the injury. Hope I'm wrong but all signs point to a louth win.

Goals win games

Conceded too many goals

Lost midfield.

Really poor from Meath - not cute enough again.

Hard luck lads, a game you should have won but it was Louth's day so it seems.

Louth just about deserved the win Well done to them. Meath confirming that are improving steadily from a low base just six months ago. Yes they have found beating Dublin was a good marker in proving they are on the way up. To suggest that loosing to Louth to day ,even after beating Dublin would mean little or nothing is total rubbish in my view.Sometimes you wonder why people who should know better say these things. Well done to Robbie and his players for showing what can be done in such a short time and cleverly using weaknesses as learning points rather than looking for excuses. .This year can still show Meath are continuing to return and can deliver a few surprises .We are at least 2 players short of the standard and maybe Robbie has his eye on the u20 team to fill the needs at this point

Thank God that's over. Finally, we can turn the page on Meath vs. Louth 2010. I'm disappointed for the lads today, but that's life-today belongs to Louth.

It took me about 15 minutes to get over the result and move on. Imagine not being able to move on for 15 years… Christ, it's only football.

A happy ending for Louth-and, if we're being honest, a quietly happy ending for us Meath fans too.

Replying To thelutch:  "Really looking forward to this game. win against the dubs have gave us great confidence however we all know Louth are no mugs, their 3rd leinster final in a row, to be honest one could argue they are probably a little more structured/settled and experienced than us at present as we have been doing plenty of chopping and changing the last number of years on the pitch.
Hopefully we have a full bill of health next Sunday, Having Coffey and jones back is really positive and Flynn should also be ready.
Need Costello to have as big game again, he was the best player on the field last weekend, Dubs could not handle him at all, even tried doubling up on him but to no avail, so strong, skilful and direct.

Again our tactics should be no different, don't concede a goal or goals we win.

Best of luck to all the players and management and of course the one and only paddy doyle, another great servant to Meath football."
Replying to my own post as usual with my prediction.

unfortunately nothing went right , goals win games, thought we were by far the better team in first half and only went in a point up after conceding the 3 goals.
Louth were always going to be a better in the second half and used their bit of experience very well.
Jones a huge loss, we went out of it in the middle in the second half, thought Menton tired which is very understandable.

Billy will be disappointed with second goal, thought he should have stopped it but he kicked 2 massive 2 pointers which balances it out.

Couple of tight calls went all louths way especially the free for 2 pointer right after our goal, should have been giving the other way in my opinion. Penalty was probably a penalty but still on the softish side.

Couldn't lay a glove on them in last 5 minutes which was frustrating but the boys left everything on the pitch and should be proud of their efforts,

In fairness no Meath person will begrudge Louth the victory.

Qualifiers will be tough, one great team and 2 very good ones in group but an opportunity to compete.

Louth Should progress in their group, all winnable games they have.

Fair play to.Louth, they were very good in second half.

From a Meath point of view we should have been further ahead at half time.
I'd like to see a replay of the late 2 pointer free which won it for them, it seemed to all around us it should have been the other way, Louth fans around us giving out about them being caught out by Meath defence and we're surprised by the decision.

Unbelievable atmosphere but very disappointing result .Louth completely dominated midfield in the second half and won most of the breaking ball .
I couldn't understand Hogan's kickouts he became so predicable it put awful pressure on our backs .
I thought when Costello scored the goal we'd win but we lacked composure and the turn over on Lynch just after the goal was a massive one for Louth.
The lads gave it everything Louth were just that bit more experienced when it matter .
Jones was a big loss and I was surprised ONeill didn't get a run out especially when we were struggling at midfield and how well he played against Dublin .
A couple of big calls went against us not sure where the free was for the last 2 pointer couldn't see the penalty clear but look harsh.
Good luck to Louth they deserved their win win the Minor for a clean sweep some achievement.

Was a free out all day, even the louth lads saying it here.
But referees make mistakes too.

Yes after Costello goal it was very disappointing to cough up possession when in scoring area. Didn't see it clearly from Davin end but even a wide would have been better. Hogan's kickouts and our inability to get possession from in second half really caught us. I thought Jack Flynn battled well at midfield but Menton was very quiet and some of the breaks just didn't go our way. As it turned out, Jones was a huge loss. Our full forward line was very quiet in 2nd half but possession wasn't exactly plentiful. Louth had homework done on Conlon especially. Kinsella was our best forward while Costello had his best moments in 2nd half and was disappointing by his standards in 1st. I suppose the positive thing is that there is certainly massive improvement in this team and signs of progression are encouraging.
