Intermediate Championship Predictions

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Ģroup 1:
Bective vs drumbaragh - This should be a close game with only a point or two in it either way. Both of these sides will struggle to get out of this group with trim and rathkenny to serious outfits in this grade. As a result this game could be key for the relegation spot. Drumbaragh have been an improving team over the past few years with lots of young lads coming into the team along with a new managment team. Bective on the other hand haven't really pushed on since becoming on intermediate side a few years ago and have struggled in recent years
Predictions: Drumbaragh to win by 2 in close battle

Trim vs Rathkenny - Alot of people would have put both of these sides in the final before the draw came out but now only one of these top sides will make it out of the group. The winner of this game will top the group and be in a semi final in a few weeks time. This will be an intense battle with lots of quality footballers on show from both sides. Trim will need to improve there leaky defence from last year if there to get anything from this game as rathkenny have the forwards that would cause most senior defences trouble. In the likes of keith curtis and caolach halligan in attack, brian meade and Donal keoghan out round the middle with james o hare and mark byrne in the full back line they are gonna be a hard to to beat in the intermediate grade. With the game being in navan i fancy rathkenny to win by 3-5 points with trims defence not been able to handle the rathkenny attack in the wide spaces of navan:

Players to watch out for in this group:
Rathkenny:
Donal keogan
Keith curtis
James o hare

Trim:
Aaron lynch
Gerard dwane
Brian dowling

Bective:
Cathal mcconell
Marty mulhall

Drumbaragh
William carry
Conor lynch

Group 2:
Walterstown vs Moylagh
This is an interesting game as many people feel it will be a one sided game with walterstown been to strong. Walterstown have been a steady side at the intermediate grade since been relegated a few years ago without pushing on to challenge for honours. They have some quality footballers with a good mix of youth and experience. Moylagh will struggle in this group and can see them in the relegation playoff as they are in a tough group and will need to battle hard in every game and turn them into a war of attrition if they are to stand a chance.
Predection: Walterstown to win by 5-8

St Michael's vs st Patricks
This will be a game to see if the Micks are up to the standards that most people feel they are to challenge for mattie later in the year. St Michaels have the attack to scare any side at this grade but can be caught out at the back which i feel will let them down against the better sides if they get out of the group. The pats will need to focus on stopping the free flowing micks attack while also causing a treat in attack.
The pats will be looking to stabilise this year as they are an ageing side.
Prediction: St michaels to win by 5

Players to watch:
St Michael:
Oran meehan
Ciaran lynch
Shane McDonnell

St pats:
Donal landy
Shane landy
Niall mooney

Walterstown:
Ruari o dowd
Barry o connell
Davy reynolds

Moylagh:
Sean reilly
Shane gibney
Tommy reilly

Group 3:
Dunderry vs kilmainham
Dunderry have been one of the most consistent side over the past 4 years without been able to get over the line. On the other hand kilmainham have struggled for form over the past few years and have been close to getting relegated down to the junior grade.
As a result I feel dunderry will have way to much for kilmainham in this one and it will be a one game shootout between themselves and castletown for a place in the semi final.
Prediction - Dunderry by 6+

Castletown vs blackhall gaels
Castletown were unlucky last year losing out to nobber after et in the semi final but what cost them in the end was the lack of squad dept and an older age profile. With that in mind I feel they will struggle to replicate there form from last year as they have lost a few players due to retirement. Blackhall made steps in the right direction last year getting a few wins in the group stage. They have struggled with numbers over the past few years and there confidence was rock bottom after getting bet week in week out over the previous years. Castletown will have to much fire power with the likes of ross and finney causing the blackhall defence problems throughout.
Prediction - castletown by 7-9

Players to watch:
Dunderry:
Paddy kennelly
Stephen coogan
Morgan callaghan

Castletown:
Killian price
Kevin ross
Darren finney

Kilmainham:
Michael newman
Seanie gahon
Dylan morgan

Blackhall:
Alan nestor
Donnacha tobìn

Group 4
Oldcastle vs syddan
In the group of death there is gonna be no quarter given in any of the games. It starts off with massive game between two teams that feel they could go far if they can get a win the fìrst day out. These two sides are no strangers to each other having played 5 time in the last few years with oldcastle coming out on top. This year i feel will be different with syddan coming out on top in this one due to there experienced management team getting the match ups right.
Prediction - Syddan to nick it by a point

Ballinabrackey vs duleek
The battle of the hard hitting sides meet in this one. The bracks will set up in there usual defensive system getting bodys behind the ball and breaking at speed. Duleek will be ready for this and i expect a close defensive battle with the bracks coming away with the points.
Prediction - bracks by 2

Players to watch:
Oldcastle:
Jason scully
Robbie farrelly
Cj healy

Syddan:
Daire rowe
Michael fedigan
Kevin traynor

Ballinabrackey;
Chris o connor
Danny quinn
Damien carroll

Duleek:
Robin clarke
Jamie crosby

Group 5:
Longwood vs meath hill
Every team in this group will fancy there chances of making it out of this group. Meath hill will be looking to use there speed in this one to cause longwoods defence serious problems. There short stay in the senior ranks will have shown the longwood players whats needed to compete at that level. I see them struggling this year as theyve a small squad that will be affected by hurling.
Prediction - hill my 3

Ballinlough vs clann na gael
The lough will be looking to get there campaign off to a winning start against the new boys clann na gael. The lough have the experience that will see them get though this game but will come unstuck against quicker fast breaking sides. Clann na gael will fancy there chances of causing a few upsets in this group as they are an up and coming young side with bags of potential.
Prediction - lough by 6

Players to watch:
Meath hill:
James mooney
Kieran slavin
Jack mcmahon

Longwood:
Ryan moore
Mickey burke
Aaron ennis

Ballinlough:
Peader byrne
Jonnie reilly
Simon deevey

Clann na gael.
Cian swane
Darragh griffin
Darragh swane

Bective vs drumbaragh - They say Drumbaragh are on the move but Bective will win

Trim vs Rathkenny - Big Match with a possibility that winner will take all. Rathkenny by a squeak
Players to watch out for in this group:

Walterstown vs Moylagh
Can only see 1 winner and they be wearing Black

St Michael's vs st Patricks
This should be tight Micks may have enough forwards but loose at the back with Jamie Reilly and Peter OConnell big misses. Pats will battle but will not trouble the scoreboard enough. I go for a drwa

Dunderry vs kilmainham
Dunderry if they handle Newman and they should and will win

Castletown vs blackhall gaels
Cant see Castletown lose this one

Group 4
Oldcastle vs syddan
You expect Syddan t be better but Oldcastle will tighten in on Rowe and so will win

Ballinabrackey vs duleek
Its now or never for the Bracks. This is a tough draw. Who will they blame if they lose. They may not have to blame anyone. Another draw

Longwood vs meath hill
Meath Hill have disappointed losing to 2 Junior sides. Longwood are not much better than Junior Hill to nick it

Ballinlough vs clann na gael
Oh God tough times for Ballinlough. Knowing them it will spur them on to a win

Was at the walterstown v moylagh game in carlanstown great view from the hedge on the side road
Moylagh fairly rattled into them but just came up that bit short. They didn't capitalise on the walterstown black card after 3 minutes and lost the game then along with giving away a bunch of soft silly frees comintg up to half time.
The goal in the 3rd quarter rattled walterstown and they kicked a few poor wides as the pressure Seemed to faze them but again a soft free steadied them and their no 15 kicked a good point soon after and they where back in control. Despite a few late points walterstown held out easy enough as the moylagh hordes complained bitterly about the referee and one had to agree somewhat with them as he had one of his poorer outings.
Moylagh where probably at their best and will do well to hit that good of form again while walterstown will improve but not enough to win a championship

GROUP A:
RATHKENNY VS BECTIVE:
Rathkenny to bounce back from there opening round defeat to beat a bective side that where lucky to pick up there win against drumbaragh who were in complete control of the game up until the last 10 minutes. Expect a much better showing from rathkenny than there disappointing performance against trim where most of the team performed below par. With Keith Curtis and Cailach hailagan firing in attack and meade and keoghan upping there game out round the middle they should have enough to win this one. RATHKENNY BY 4

TRIM VS DRUMBARAGH:
Can only see one winner in this one with trim having far to much for an improved drumbaragh side. With Lynch leading the attack and with the likely return of toher and moran back for trim they will win this game and 1st gear. Drumbaragh will try to nullify the trim treat but wont be able to casue them enough problems going the other way. TRIM BY 6+

GROUP B:
ST PATS VS WALTERSTOWN:
This is a close game to call with the pats narrowly losing out to st michaels in round 1 with walterstown just scrapping over the line against newly promoted moylagh. I expect this game to be a physical hard hitting game with not much between the sides. Think walterstown will just nick the win due to having the more clinical and mobile forward unit in o dowd and o connells. WALTERSTOWN by 2

ST MICHAELS VS MOYLAGH:
Should be only one winner in this game game with the michaels forward unit having to much for a battling moylagh side. Oran meehan, shane mcDonnell and ciaran lynch will be to hot to handle for the moylagh defence but they can casue the michaels probems at the back with hard running down the middle as there defence is there weak point. MICHAELS BY 5

GROUP C:
CASTLETOWN VS DUNDERRY:
This was meant to be the game that decided who would top the group at the start of the campaign but with both sides losing there opening round this has no become about picking up the win and not being bottom of the table heading into the last round of games. Castletown have went back since last year with a few of there players not returning and an ageing side that seem to have second season syndrome with there manager. Dunderry on the other hand have got coogan back but kennelly still seems to be out injured. This will be a close game with both sides season on the line. DUNDERRY TO WIN BY 1

BLACKHALL VS KILMAINHAM:
The two sides that pulled off the shocks in round 1 meet in am exciting game for both as the winner will likely make it through to the semi finals. The game will come down to both sides trying to nullify the Opposition danger men. Blackhall will be looking to the likes of alan nestor, brosnan and kelly while kilmainham will be hoping michael newman and morgan can continue where they left off against dunderry. Think blackhall have the better defense so BLACKHALL TO WIN BY 3

GROUP D:
DULEEK VS OLDCASTLE:
A key game in this group with both sides not getting of to a winning start in this group of death. Duleek will fancy there chances of beating oldcastle in this one but i expect it to be a hard hitting physical game like them all in this intriguing group. I feel oldcastle will get the result in this won as they need to pick up points quick if they have any chance of getting out of this group with scully and farrelly putting in big performances.

BALLINABRACKEY VS SYDDAN:
In what i feel is the tie of the round in the intermediate championship this week syddan take on ballinabrackey in summerhill. Syddan had an exellent win over oldcastle in round 1 while the bracks drew against duleek so its all to play for in this game. Syddan know that if they can perform to the same levels as they did against oldcastle they'd be confident of coming away with the win and possibly sealing qualification out of the group if results go there way. Think SYDDAN BY 1

GROUP E:
MEATHILL VS BALLINLOUGH:
Meathill will fancy there chances in this one as the lough were poor against clann na gael with the pace of clann na gael causing them problems throughout the game.. The lough will be looking for a big response but i feel there an ageing sdie that has lost the hunger so the more hungry and pacey meath hill side will win this one. MEATHHILL BY 3

CLANN NA GAEL VS LONGWOOD:
clann na gael got there season off to the perfect start with a comfortable win against the lough while longwood lost out to meath hill but came back late on to make a game of it. If longwood can get there free taking sorted out they might nick this won as they wont wanna be going into a final game showdown with the lough with the loser going into the relegation battle. CLANN NA GAEL BY 2

GROUP A:
RATHKENNY VS BECTIVE:
Rathkenny shouldn't have too many problems here but with Trim also winning the show is over for the former Seniors

TRIM VS DRUMBARAGH:
Trim handy enough as they head for the KOs

GROUP B:
ST PATS VS WALTERSTOWN:
Walterstown to set up winner take all Round 3 v Michaels

ST MICHAELS VS MOYLAGH:
Michaels to battle hard enough to consign Moylagh to a relegation battle but the Pitch here will level things so only a narrow win

GROUP C:
CASTLETOWN VS DUNDERRY:
Oh how the mighty Daddies have fallen from unlucky team in 2019 to Relegation threatened in 2020 as Dunderry pull themselves back into contention

BLACKHALL VS KILMAINHAM:
A poor Blackhall side to beat a poorer Kilmainham team

GROUP D:
DULEEK VS OLDCASTLE:
Oldcastle disappointed last Round as Duleek over achieved but East Meath will win here

BALLINABRACKEY VS SYDDAN:
Bit of panic in the Bracks but thats nothing new They will have enough for an average Syddan side

GROUP E:
MEATHILL VS BALLINLOUGH:
The Hill's form not great as they struggled over a poor Longwood side but the win will give them focus and the have enough talent to over come the brawn of The Lough

CLANN NA GAEL VS LONGWOOD:
Clann na nGael have benifitted from the few years at Junior and are a decent side. Longwood have suffered from their year at Senior and are close to Junior. Youth and Freshness to decide it for Clan

Glenny is it true that castletown were in lock-down ( the club ) for three weeks resulting in little or no training before champo ?

would explain the heavy defeat to black-hall

There were shut down for two separate weekends. A total of about 5/6 days.

Before and after their loss to Nobber.

GROUP A:
RATHKENNY VS BECTIVE:
Rude awakening for Rathkenny in the first round, fancy a close encounter here with Rathkenny pulling through by 2 points

TRIM VS DRUMBARAGH:
I'm backing Trim to pretty much secure their qualification here, however I think it'll be a bit more of a battle than some expect, Trim by 5

GROUP B:
ST PATS VS WALTERSTOWN:
Interesting battle here can see the Pats sneak a 1 point win and keep their qualification hopes alive

ST MICHAELS VS MOYLAGH
Going to throw the cat amongst the pigeons here and back Moylagh to beat the Michaels by 2

GROUP C:
CASTLETOWN VS DUNDERRY:
Both teams need a big performance, however I think Dunderry are better fixed to come up with the performance, Dunderry to do the business with 3 points to spare

BLACKHALL VS KILMAINHAM:
Impressive wins for both last time out, quite obvious who the danger men are for both sides. Could be a straight shoutout. Going to back Blackhall by 2 though

GROUP D:
DULEEK VS OLDCASTLE
Oldcastle needing a big win here after that killer defeat to Syddan, however I don't think they'll get it. Draw game

BALLINABRACKEY VS SYDDAN:
The most intriguing of all games in this round of the intermediate, could be absolutely hell for leather stuff, Syddan to sneak by 1 but another draw not off the cards

GROUP E:
MEATHILL VS BALLINLOUGH:
You'd have to give Meath Hill the benefit here after a good win against Longwood, M'hill by 2

CLANN NA GAEL VS LONGWOOD:
Could potentially see Longwood in back to back relegation trouble if they can't get past this clans team. Clans with a huge confidence booster the last day out and fancy them to push on and set up a showdown with Meath Hill in the last round, Clans by 5

Some amount of nonsense posted on this.

Castletown were hammered by Blackhall because Blackhall have most of their team back that were a decent team in the senior championship ( regularly reaching quater finals at least) and are miles better than Castletown when they've their full team, sure they've a huge catchment area.

Yet Glenny describes Blackhall and Kilmainhan as two bad teams - Kilmainham are pretty much unbeaten this year and have some serious forwards and tenacious defenders when they've a full panel to pick from (usually in summer it seems). Blackhall will prob win intermediate if they keep their current squad involved. It's no wonder Glenny got his first round predictions so spectacularly wrong - you've no idea about most of the teams save for a few généralisations.

I generally wouldn't have a cut off lads brave enough to make predictions and fair play to you for sticking your neck out. Forum wouldn't amount to much without lads like you. I draw the line though at lads slagging off clubs as poor teams when they've no clue about the clubs they are slagging off.

Eh Blackhall are a very average intermediate team and were never in the top 5 the last 3 years

Gonna be a very interesting last weekend in some groups regarding going through and avoiding relegation play offs

Anyone any idea what way the semis are ? I know winners of d & e play in quarter final but then who meets who ?

It's a long time since Blackhall Gaels were a decent senior team, they haven't reached a senior quarter final since 2008. If they're relying on 15 years ago's players they really aren't going far....
