London claimed the All-Ireland junior football championship title for the first time since 1986 thanks to a 5-12 to 0-17 victory over USGAA at Croke Park this afternoon.
Having lost out in the last two deciders in this competition, Paul Coggins's men got over the line at the third time of asking by making their goals count at headquarters.
Conor Redican and Shaun McCready raised the green flags that saw London leading by 2-5 to 0-8 at the end of an airtight opening half and they’d add three more majors in the second period.
The USGAA side, made up of a range of club from across Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston, had booked their final spot by defeating Warwickshire after extra time (2-13 to 1-11) in Abbotstown on Friday evening and trimmed their deficit back to two early in the restart with Eoin Gormley's point before back-to-back two-point frees by captain Noel Maher pushed the London lead out to seven.
McCready grabbed his second goal in the 45th minute ahead of Niall McGivney and Alfie McNulty each netting more late on which put the margin between the teams into double figures, cementing the win for Coggins's side.
The result marks London’s seventh All-Ireland JFC success, having knocked out four-in-a-row chasing New York in extra time on Friday on route to the title.
