Offaly hurling captain Charlie Mitchell is recovering in hospital after feeling unwell following his side's surprise Leinster Senior Hurling Championship draw with Kilkenny at Glenisk O’Connor Park last Sunday.
The Kilcormac/Killoughey clubman, who recently returned to action after being sidelined with a heart issue, was taken to the nearby Midlands Regional Hospital before being transferred to St James’ Hospital in Dublin where he underwent a procedure. Offaly GAA released a statement on Monday morning in which they provided a positive update on his condition.
“Following yesterday’s game against Kilkenny, Charlie Mitchell felt unwell,” the statement read.
“After assessment by our medical team, Charlie went to the Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore. Charlie was transferred to St James’ Hospital where he underwent a procedure last night. We have been in contact with the Mitchell family this morning and they have advised that he is currently recovering and is in good form. Everyone at Offaly GAA wishes Charlie a speedy recovery.”
Mitchell has been in terrific form for Offaly since scoring 1-3 in his comeback game against Dublin in the opening round of the Leinster SHC. He had missed all of the Allianz League campaign after being diagnosed with myocarditis, which is inflammation of the heart muscle.
It remains to be seen if this latest health scare will rule the University of Galway student out of the Faithful County’s remaining Leinster SHC round-robin games against Wexford this Saturday and Kildare the following weekend.
