Galway GAA has seen its plans for a new building on its grounds at Kenny Park approved by the Galway County Council this week.

The building at the Athenry ground will be for media and press, which will include around five new desk stations for reporters onto the existing viewing terrace.

This year saw Kenny Park celebrating its 70th anniversary, with Galway GAA applying for the permission in October to improve its media facilities at the stadium with a new press box.

This week saw that planning permission approved by the County Council on the conditions that no illuminated signage, advertisements or advertising structures be installed.

Kenny Park, which first opened its gates in 1955, is the home of St Mary’s, Athenry – a club which won three All-Ireland club SHC titles between 1997 and 2001 – and has hosted numerous Galway senior hurling championship finals, with the most recent being in 2020.
