Kingscourt Stars saw off Cuchulainns by 0-18 to 0-12 in Cootehill to record their third straight win in this year’s Cavan senior football championship.

In this clash of the county champions versus the league champions, it was the Stars that emerged victorious as ace attacker Jordan Morris got them up and running with an early two-pointer and the scores of Aaron Shekleton, Caoimhin McGee, Morris (2) and Peter Corrigan would carry them towards a 0-10 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Points by Bryan Magee and Turlough Farrelly got the Mullagh men motoring early in the second-half and they’d trim their deficit down to one thanks to the scores of Ryan Tobin.

Another Morris point in the 47th minute served to steady Kingscourt’s ship however, and from there they’d see two more two-pointers by the Meath star sail over to put a seal on the win and a place in the quarter-finals with it.

In Ballymachugh, goal proved key for Cavan Gaels as they battled their way past Arva for their second win in the Oliver Plunkett Cup race.

It finished 3-12 to 1-15 at Sheelin Park, where Evan Fortune’s goal helped the Gaels to lead by 1-8 to 0-9 at half-time.

Joshua Shehu fired in the Cavan Town side’s second goal five minutes into the restart and they’d raise the green flag for a third time via former county senior Luke Fortune with six minutes remaining, with Peter Morris’s major in injury-time proving only consolation for Arva who slipped to their second defeat.
