The second-round draw for the Down senior football championship has thrown up a repeat of last year’s final in the Mourne County.

Having comfortably defeated Drumgath (3-18 to 0-12) in their opener on Sunday, defending champions Kilcoo will face Carryduff this Sunday in Newry (6.30pm), with last year’s runners up beating Mayobridge by 3-15 to 2-15 in their respective first round tie.

Kilcoo defeated Carryduff by six points in last year’s county final and, under the management of Martin Corey, the Magpies are currently in pursuit of their eighth consecutive Frank O’Hare Cup success.

The other ties in the Down SFC this weekend see two games on the schedule for Friday evening (7pm) as Glenn face Saval in Burren and Bryansford take on Saul in Kilcoo.

On Saturday, Drumgath will look to get off the mark when they meet GRU Downpatrick in Castlewellan (2pm), Loughisland play Warrenpoint in Bryansford (3.30pm) and Bredagh and Castlewellan clash in Downpatrick in the evening fixture (6.15pm). Then on Sunday, it’s Ballyholland versus Mayobridge at An Riocht (1.30pm) before the big game in Newry is followed by the meeting of Clonduff and Burren at the county ground (7.15pm).
