Eoghan Cahill’s ‘65’ in the sixth minute of injury-time saw Offaly earn 0-24 to 1-21 draw against Kilkenny in this afternoon’s Leinster senior hurling championship third round clash in Tullamore.

The Faithful men came close to recording their first championship win over the Cats since 1998 in this one, having led going into injury-time where the holders took the lead with back-to-back points from Killian Doyle and Cian Kenny (free) before Cahill’s late intervention.

Mike Carey’s goal in the 25th minute helped Derek Lyng’s team edge a 1-9 to 0-11 lead at the halfway stage at O’Connor Park, but they’d trail for large portion of the second-half as Cahill found his range for the hosts.

The scores of Liam Moore, Kenny (free) and Doyle put Kilkenny into a 1-16 to 0-18 lead by the 57th minute, but three Cahill frees and a Brian Duignan effort would outweigh points at the other end from Fionan Mackessy and Martin Keoghan coming into the crunch.

Kenny levelled for the visitors and Ter Guinan and Doyle would swap scores prior to Kenny’s free seemingly winning it for the Cats, but once last chance would see Cahill coming up clutch for Johnny Kelly’s men to secure a share of the points - a result that marks the first draw between these counties in the championship since 1985.
