Goals from Jordan Flynn and Cian McHale were the difference as Mayo moved up to second in the Allianz Football League Division 1 table with a 2-17 to 0-22 victory over Armagh in Castlebar this afternoon.

Flynn’s goal came inside the opening two minutes for the hosts and the same player would add a two-pointer which was backed up by long range efforts from Conor Loftus, Ryan O’Donoghue (free) and Cian McHale for the Westerners to move towards a 1-11 to 0-5 lead at half-time.

Cian McConville hit a brace of points early in the restart for Armagh and they raised orange flags via Greg McCabe and Oisin O’Neill before points from Jason Duffy, Tiernan Kelly and McConville eventually trimmed their deficit down to a goal on 54 minutes.

Mayo responded by hitting the Orchard men’s net again through McHale and two points off the bench from Kobe McDonald would help them to get over the line towards their fourth league win, while Kieran McGeeney’s side move into the drop zone after suffering their fourth loss of the campaign.

In Killarney, Kerry scored a comfortable 1-18 to 0-7 win against Monaghan to deepen the Farney men’s relegation worries.

David Clifford came off the bench to hit 1-4 for the All-Ireland champions, who led by 0-5 to 0-4 at half-time before hitting the first four points of the restart through Sean O’Shea (3) and Paudie Clifford.

Robbie Hanratty and Andrew Woods got points back for the visitors, but they couldn’t contain the Kingdom’s attack as Dylan Geaney and Tadhg Morley each sent over to erase those efforts before David Clifford backed up a two-pointer on the hour mark with a clinching goal four minutes later.

The 14-point victory marks a third of the campaign for Jack O’Connor’s men, leaving Monaghan on the cusp of relegation back to Division 2 with two rounds remaining.
