Customers of a pub in Co. Meath will be hit with a €2 fine on the price of a pint if Joe Sheridan is mentioned between now and Sunday week’s eagerly-awaited Leinster SFC final between Meath and Louth.
The former Meath sharpshooter scored one of the most infamous goals in GAA history in the dying seconds of the 2010 Leinster final to deny Louth their first provincial title in 53 years. The goal stood, despite Sheridan having carried the ball across the line and led to angry Louth fans confronting referee Martin Sludden as he made his way off the pitch afterwards.
Now Stabannon Parnells and Louth supporter Mary Lynch, whose family own Lynch’s Bar in Slane, has decided to take action if the name of ‘Big Joe’ is uttered in the build-up to this year’s Delaney Cup decider.
In a Facebook post, she jokingly wrote: “For anyone calling in for banter, I have decided to put up a jar behind the bar and every time someone mentions JS (Joe Sheridan), it’s a €2 (fine). Come on the Wee County.”
Mary added that any ‘fines’ incurred will go to the local Tidy Towns Committee.
