Kilcormac/Killoughey will begin their quest for an historic four-in-a-row of Offaly Senior Hurling Championships without Adam Screeney after the star forward underwent shoulder surgery last week.
The 2024 All-Ireland U20 winner, who has established himself as one of the most lethal attackers in the game, will miss the round-robin series, but K/K hope to have him back in time for the knockout stages which they are almost certain to qualify for. They begin their Sean Robbins Cup defence next Sunday evening when they host record title holders Coolderry. Their other games in Group 1 are against St Rynagh’s, Birr and Kinnitty.
Screeney’s absence is a further blow to the champions who were already planning without another marquee forward in Charlie Mitchell. The 2024 and ’25 Offaly Senior Hurler of the Year is recovering from a heart procedure after taking ill following Offaly’s Leinster SHC draw with Kilkenny in May, and there are doubts over whether he will play again.
