Cork will play Tipperary in the semi-finals of the Munster senior football championship after both sides came their respective quarter-finals this afternoon.

The Rebels proved too strong for Limerick at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, where it finished 4-16 to 1-16 in favour of the hosts who netted all four of their goals in the first-half.

Limerick had opened an early 0-3 to 0-2 lead before Dara Sheedy fired the Leesiders in front with a goal in the 13th minute and Tommy Walsh would have the ball in the Treaty men’s net again in the very next attack.

Sean McDonnell hammered in the third goal for John Cleary’s side 10 minutes later and Ian Maguire would raise the fourth green flag and Cork went in at the break with a 4-10 to 0-7 advantage.

The visitors improved in the second-half, netting a James Naughton goal three minutes into the restart and then holding their opponents to six points, but the Rebels, who saw Brian O’Driscoll dismissed on the hour mark, cruised to victory nonetheless.

They’ll met Tipp in the semi-finals of the southern province on April 25th after the Premier men saw off Waterford by 0-15 to 1-7 in Dungarvan.

Sean O’Connor and Cian Smith combined for 0-10 of the visitors’ tally, but it was Waterford that led by 1-3 to 0-5 at the end of the first-half thanks to Michael O’Brien’s 22nd minute goal.

Smith (free) got Niall Fitzgerald’s side level early in the restart and, after Stephen Curry’s free nudged the Deise ahead again, the favourites for this provincial quarter-final eventually took control with a Charlie King point being backed up by an O’Connor two-pointer in the 42nd minute.

O’Connor and Jack O’Neill raised more white flags after that and three more singles from O’Connor would ensure Tipp got the job done at Fraher Field after a slow start.
