Westmeath booked their place in the O’Byrne Cup final thanks to a 5-10 to 2-8 victory over Offaly at TEG Cusack Park this afternoon.

Mark McHugh’s side were out to an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead in Mullingar when Danny McCartan hammered home their first goal in the sixth minute and they’d add another via Brandon Kelly to go on and lead by 2-7 to 1-3 at half-time.

Ciaran Murphy’s second goal of the game saw Offaly trimming their deficit to five points seven minutes into the second-half, but the hosts surged clear again with goals from substitute Senan Baker, McCartan and Kelly to rubberstamp their win.

The Lake men now await either Kildare or Dublin in the Leinster pre-season competition’s final next Friday, with the latter two set to play their semi-final at 5pm today in Newbridge.

Meanwhile, Carlow and Wicklow will meet in the O’Byrne Cup Shield final after coming through their respective semi-finals this afternoon.

Carlow were 2-15 to 3-9 winners over Laois in Rathvilly, where Colm Hulton’s brilliant late goal proved key for the hosts, while Wicklow had too much for Longford in Bray where Eoin Darcy, Sean Murphy and Darragh Fee raised the green flags for the home side.
