Cork star Seamus Harnedy has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling after 15 seasons.

The Imokilly clubman bows out with four Munster SHC titles, a National Hurling League Division 1A medal and three All-Stars to his name.

Harnedy confirmed the news in an emotional Instagram post, reflecting on his time with the Rebels and thanking those who supported him throughout his career.

“It’s hard to put into words what the last 15 years in the Cork jersey have meant to me,” it read.

“I’ve had the honour of playing with and against some of the greatest hurlers of all time. On top of that I’ve had the privilege of working under outstanding management teams and mentors but the time has come to step away.

“Incredibly grateful for the support from my family, my friends, my club, St.Ita’s and the people of Cork.”

A mainstay of Cork hurling for a decade and a half, Harnedy brought leadership, determination and quality to the forward line, earning the respect of teammates, opponents and supporters alike.

His outstanding performances were recognised with All-Star awards in 2013, 2018 and 2024, while he enjoyed a particularly memorable season in 2018 when he captained his county to Munster SHC glory.

Alongside his four provincial titles, Harnedy also helped the Rebels claim National Hurling League Division 1A honours during his distinguished career.

Paying tribute to his family, friends, club St Ita’s and the people of Cork, Harnedy acknowledged the support that helped him throughout his journey in the red jersey.

His retirement marks the end of an era for Rebel supporters. After 15 seasons of outstanding service, Harnedy leaves behind a proud legacy and will go down as one of the great hurlers to have represented the Leesiders.
