Kevin Mahony’s goal deep in injury-time saw Waterford snatch a 3-24 to 1-30 draw in the second round of the Munster senior hurling championship this afternoon.
Having lost out to Cork last weekend, Tipp looked set for their first points in the Mick Mackey Cup race after registering unanswered points via Stefan Tobin, Jason Forde and Ronan Maher late on at Walsh Park, but there’d still be time for a twist at the finish and it was Mahony who hit the All-Ireland champions’ net to make sure the points were shared.
Liam Cahill’s side had dominated large portions of the first-half, netting an Andrew Ormonde goal on the way to a 1-18 to 1-7 half-time lead.
Jamie Barron got the Deise men’s first goal in the 23rd minute and, after the change of ends, they reduced their deficit down to three points ahead of points from Eoghan Connolly and Jake Morris sailing over their bar.
The home side responded by burying in their second goal via Stephen Bennett (1-10) and they’d push ahead through their marksman prior to Tipp outscoring them 0-6 to 0-2 down the home stretch, but Mahony’s strike made sure that they’d avoid a second straight defeat in the southern province.
Late drama! The game that keeps on giving!!!

Cork made it two wins from two in the Munster SHC as they battled past Limerick to a 2-22 to 1-23 victory, inflicting the Treaty men with defeat in their first outing of the championship.
It was John Kiely’s side made the better start before a 43,369 crowd at Pairc Ui Chaoimh, where they ran up a 0-10 to 0-3 lead before Shane Barrett’s goal got to the Rebels motoring.
Points from Shane O’Brien and Cathal O’Neill saw the visitors close out the first-half with a 0-16 to 1-11 lead, but there was much more to come from Ben O’Connor’s charges.
Alan Connolly (free) and William Buckley registered scores that brought the hosts within one and they’d hit the front through Connolly’s goal in the 45th minute.
Things got worse for Limerick five minutes later when they saw skipper Cian Lynch pick up a straight red card, which will see him suspended for next weekend’s game against Clare bar a successful appeal, although they would hit the front again late on with a Diarmuid Byrnes free that ended up in the Leesiders net.
Connolly (free) levelled the game on the 70-minute mark and the Blackrock sharpshooter repeated the trick a minute later before Darragh Fitzgibbon rounded off the Munster champions’ tally.
