Joe Canning reckons Davy Fitzgerald will be more concerned with Antrim’s ‘flat’ performance against Kildare than the result.
Last Sunday’s 0-20 to 3-21 defeat to the newly-promoted Lilywhites was the Saffrons’ third on the bounce and leaves them staring at relegation from Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League. The Antrim manager’s disappointment was such that the post-match media duties were left to selector Seoirse Bulfin.
“It's not alone the result. I don't think the result would have shocked too many people, because it's a 50/50 game really. But how [Kildare] went about it, just before half-time they went four points up and pushed on from there,” the Galway legend said on RTÉ’s Allianz League Sunday.
“I think Davy will be really disappointed now with how flat Antrim were in that second half. Especially when the goals went in, there was no real fightback.
“Brian Dowling [Kildare manager] and his team will be really, really happy this evening.”
