Donegal veteran Michael Murphy is expected to miss his club’s senior football championship opening round clash this weekend.
Glenswilly are set to host Naomh Conaill on Saturday (7.30pm) when the first four games of the 2025 Donegal SFC get underway, with four more down for decision the following day.
Speaking to the Donegal News this week in the build-up to the first round of the competition, Glenswilly manager Gary McDaid said that Murphy is “on a break at the minute” following a long season back in the colours of Donegal, which saw the Tir Chonaill men reaching last Sunday week’s All-Ireland SFC final where they lost out to Kerry.
Murphy kicked 0-8 for the Ulster champions in the decider, but is now expected to be absent for his club’s opening assignment in the Dr Maguire Cup race against the 2023 champions in two days’ time.
Meanwhile, holders St Eunan’s are set to get their title defence underway on Sunday when they welcome Kilcar to Letterkenny (4pm) looking for an opening win in pursuit of what would be a record extending 17th senior county title.
