Tyrone advanced to the semi-finals of the Ulster minor football championship with a 3-16 to 0-18 win over Monaghan in Inniskeen this afternoon.

Conan Canavan, nephew of Peter, struck for 2-5 for the Red Hands as they moved into the last four along with Derry who defeated Cavan in Owenbeg (1-16 to 1-9).

The visitors were 1-12 to 0-4 up at half-time, with Vincent Gormley netting their first goal in the 15th minute, and Canavan would register two more in the space of six minutes in the second-half to put his team on their way to the last four.

Derry were 0-2 to 0-1 ahead against Cavan when Don Mulholland struck their goal in the 13th minute and points from Lorcan Higgins, Mulholland and Gabriel Gormley moved the Oak Leafers towards a 1-9 to 0-4 interval lead.

Cavan got a goal back through skipper Jake Brady midway through the second-half and the points of Exceedingly Imade and Jay Graham (2) would leave them seven short in the end as they now move into the quarter-finals.

Armagh are into the quarters as well after recording a 2-22 to 1-11 win against Fermanagh in Crossmaglen.

Shane Toner and Fiachra Maxwell grabbed the goals for hosts in the first-half against the Ernesiders who are now set to play in the Tier 3 All-Ireland championship.

Meanwhile, the provincial qualifier second round clash between Donegal and Down was abandoned due to poor weather conditions.

Donegal were leading by 2-17 to 0-6 midway through the second-half in Convoy when proceedings were called to a halt as torrential rain poured down, with the decision eventually being taken by referee Shane Murphy to call the game off.
