Laois will be playing their league hurling in Division 1B next season after recording an empathic 0-28 to 0-11 win over Meath in Portlaoise this afternoon.

The 17-point victory sees the O’Moore men with 10 points after five games in the league table, meaning they’ve booked their place into the Division 2 final with a round remaining.

Tommy Fitzgerald’s side led by 0-11 to 0-7 at the halfway stage before upping it a gear after the change of ends, with Aaron Dunphy, James Keyes and substitute Stephen Maher starring for them.

In Tralee, Oisin Maunsell struck for 2-6 as rampant Kerry trounced Mayo by 6-24 to 0-15 to record their third win of the Division 2 campaign.

Maunsell’s first goal came after a dozen minutes and Michael Slattery, Gavin Dooley and Colin Walsh would also find the net before half-time as the home side took in an unassailable 4-17 to 0-5 lead.

Dooley and Maunsell raised the umpire’s green flag against in the second period as Kerry moved up to seven points in the league table in their promotion pursuit.

Westmeath are also on seven points after defeating Derry by 1-20 to 3-13 in Mullingar this afternoon.

A dominant first-half saw the hosts running up a 0-15 to 0-6 lead on their Ulster counterparts who fought back in the second-half before a late David Williams put a seal on the Lake men’s victory.
