The Armagh flag flies proudly.

A GAA club in south Armagh has been plunged into mourning following the sudden passing of its chairperson.

St Michael’s, Newtownhamilton says it is ‘heartbroken’ after Liam Davidson became unwell and passed away while attending the All-Ireland Road Bowling finals in Drogheda on Saturday. He was only 51.

“Our club and community are heartbroken at the sudden passing of our chairperson Liam Davidson,” the club posted online.

“Liam has been a dedicated and valued member of our club for over 40 years, as a player, coach and holding many roles on our committee.

“He was well known and loved within not just our club, but also the whole GAA community in south Armagh and further afield.

“At this tough time, our thoughts are with Liam’s family. We offer our prayers and support.”

Another tribute from neighbouring Crossmaglen Rangers read: “Our thoughts are with our fellow Gaels on the sudden, untimely passing of their chairperson, a devoted and loyal Gael to his club and county.

“We are all thinking of you at this heartbreaking time. Mary Queen of the Gael pray for Liam and his family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
