Clare came through a battle with Limerick last night (Wednesday) to move into the knockout stage of the Munster U20 hurling championship.
It finished 0-18 to 0-15 at O’Garney Park, Sixmilebridge, where Fred Hegarty led the way in the scoring stakes for the hosts with 0-10 over the hour.
The sides were all square on 0-9 apiece by the end of the first-half and Hugh Flanagan’s frees had Limerick ahead before Graham Ball got the Banner lads level and Jamie Moylan nudged them in front.
The sides would be level twice more prior to Flanagan (free) firing over the visitors last score of the game, with Hegarty squaring things up once more from a free and shooting over another in the 59th minute after Moylan was brought down.
Paul Rodgers sent over after that for Clare and Moylan would provide what proved the insurance point from distance to put a seal on the derby win which advances Terence Fahy’s side into the knockout stages where they’ll have a two-week break before meeting Tipperary in Thurles.
