Andrew Kilcullen struck for 1-8 as Sligo won their seventh straight league outing at Longford’s expense to get their hands on the Allianz Hurling League Division 4 title this afternoon.

It finished 2-21 to 4-12 at Markievicz Park, where the hosts were 0-7 to 0-3 up when Gerard O’Kelly-Lynch lashed in their first goal on 26 minutes.

Cathal Mullane hit back with a goal for Longford for minutes later and, while they went in at the break trailing by 1-7 to 1-5, Micheál Mulcahy’s goal a minute into the restart brought them level after Robert O’Kelly-Lynch had sailed over at the other end.

A couple of Kilcullen points, along with scores from Robert O’Kelly-Lynch and Thomas Cawley, saw the Yeats men regaining control before Kilcullen struck a 47th minute goal and two more points (one free) from the Easkey clubman had the scoreboard reading 2-14 to 2-9 with 15 minutes left on the clock.

Sligo sent over seven of the next 10 points after that, with Kilcullen to the fore for them, ahead of the Midlanders grabbing two goals via Mulcahy and Ruben Murray in injury-time which proved to be mere consolation for them in the end.
