Kerry will be playing their league hurling in Division 1B next season after defeating Meath by 2-18 to 0-18 in Trim this afternoon.

The result marks a fourth win of the Allianz League campaign for John Griffin’s men and means they have been promoted alongside top-placed Laois who finished with maximum points after six games.

Ronan Walsh’s penalty after a dozen minutes helped to set the tone for the visitors, who led by 1-12 to 0-8 at the break, and a Tom Doyle goal four minutes into the restart would see them moving nine points clear.

Tom Shine and Joey Cole landed responded with points for the Royals, but they’d be down to 14 men after the dismissal of wing forward Damien Healy and, from there, points via Walsh, Padraig Boyle and Colin Walsh saw Kerry safely over the line towards promotion.

The Munster side are now set to face Laois in next weekend’s Division 2 final, with the O’Moore men recording an emphatic 3-27 to 1-22 win over London in Ruislip this afternoon.

Cormac Byrne, Fionn Holland and Gearoid Lynch supplied the goals for the already promoted visitors inside the opening 20 minutes at McGovern Park where the Exiles slipped to their fourth defeat of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Westmeath recorded their fourth win by inflicting a 2-37 to 1-14 defeat on now relegated Mayo in Castlebar.

The Lake men ran up a massive 0-21 to 0-6 lead by half-time before netting goals via Darragh McCormack and Peter Clarke in the second-half to cruise to an emphatic 26-point win in their final league outing of the year.
