Kobe helps Crossmolina to Mayo SFC quarter-finals

Kobe McDonald scored 0-3 (0-2 from frees) on his Crossmolina return, while older brother Jordan Flynn hit a late equaliser to send the Deel Rovers through to the Mayo SFC quarter-finals.

Making his first Mayo SFC appearance since the All-Ireland SFC final after being given permission by his AFL club St Kilda to play, McDonald’s contribution was crucial as Crossmolina earned a 0-16 to 2-10 draw with Mayo Gaels to progress as Group 3 runners-up. The maroon and whites will now play Garrymore in the last-eight, with Claremorris meeting Belmullet, Breaffy facing Westport and Aghamore taking on Castlebar Mitchels.

Those games will be played on the weekend of September 19/20.

In yesterday’s other SFC games, Aghamore defeated Ballintubber by 2-13 to 1-12 to top Group 3, Ryan O’Donoghue’s Belmullet got the better of Ballaghaderreen by 4-17 to 2-13 in Group 4, while Breaffy sent Knockmore packing with a 0-22 to 0-17 victory in the same group.
