Ciara Hickey has become the latest Galway camogie star to suffer an ACL injury.
The PWC GPA Player of the Month for July could be facing up to a year on the sidelines after sustaining the dreaded injury during the second half of the Westerners’ recent All-Ireland final defeat to Cork. The Davitts defender was forced off in the 45th minute and her worst fears have now been realised.
She becomes the fifth Galway player after Niamh McPeake, Aíne Keane, Olwen Rabbitte and Joanne Daly to have been struck by the cruciate curse in recent seasons.
ACL injuries are a hot topic in Gaelic games at the moment after other high-profile stars such as Kerry’s Sean O’Brien and Meath football duo Sean Coffey and Conor Gray also had their seasons cut short by the injury.
