Armagh are hopeful to have wing-back Ross McQuillan back fit in time for their Ulster senior football championship final against Monaghan on Sunday week.

McQuillan missed the Orchard men’s 28-point hammering of Down last weekend due to a calf strain which also sees him in doubt for the showdown with the Farney men in Clones.

Speaking at the Ulster Final media event in Caledon, Co Tyrone yesterday, Armagh coach Conleith Gilligan confirmed that the Cullyhanna clubman is back training with the squad and hopes that he will be fit for the team’s provincial decider.

“Ross is back training again, but it's early with him,” Gilligan is quoted saying by BelfastLive.co.uk.

“A lot of them, because the players are highly tuned, it takes very little just to knock them off kilter.

"Once they're like that, and I suppose players like Ross that are so explosive, you just cannot take... It's not like a player that's moving maybe at a lesser speed because the velocity of the move, that's so quick.

"You don't want to be taking chances with them because it just leaves it more dangerous.

“He's back doing a bit of running, so you'd be hopeful he'd be back in contention for the final.”
