Tyrone made their goals count as they captured their third Ulster U20 football championship title in-a-row with a 4-19 to 0-22 win against Monaghan at the Box-It Athletic Grounds last night.

Monaghan made a promising start to this decider, running up a 0-6 to 0-1 lead with Tom Doherty in fine shooting form early on, but goals by Shea McDermott and Conor Devlin in the space of four minutes would surge the holders in front.

Points from Adrian McGurren and Peter Colton (2) stretched the Red Hands’ advantage before Doherty pulled back a two-pointer for the Farney lads.

Colton and McGurren added more points to the Tyrone tally and an Aodhan Quinn goal saw them move towards a 3-11 to 0-11 lead at the interval.

Monaghan looked to make up ground by landing the first four points of the second-half and a couple of two-pointers via Max Maguire would help bring them back within three, but Devlin was able to steady the ship for Tyrone with a timely point that’d be backed up by Darragh Donaghy and McDermott scores.

Donaghy hammered in the game’s last goal on the hour mark to seal the deal for Paul Devlin’s side as they triumphed to their county’s 18th provincial success in the U21/U20 grade.
