Mayo and Galway progressed through to the knockout stages of the Connacht U20 football championship with one round still remaining after respective victories yesterday evening.
Mayo were rampant in handing Leitrim a comprehensive 3-21 to 1-12 defeat in Carrick-on-Shannon, where Dylan Flynn and Kobe McDonald netted early goals for the visitors.
A couple of Colm Lynch two-pointers and scores from Tom Lydon, who finished with 0-7, saw the Westerners moving towards a 2-12 to 0-5 advantage at the half before Darragh Beirne rattled in their second goal in the 47th minute, with Colm McLoughlin netting a consolation one for Leitrim three minutes later.

Galway knocked Sligo out of the western province with what proved to be a hard fought 1-13 to 0-15 win at Tuam Stadium.
The Tribesmen were seemingly cruising at half-time (0-11 to 0-5) before the visitors sent over six unanswered scores early in the second-half to level the tie.
Conor Walsh, Matthew Walsh, Aaron Lang (3) and Eamon Keane were the players to raise the white flags during that purple patch from the Yeats County, but they’d be rocked again after a Eoinin O Cualain point at the other end was backed up by a goal from the same player.
Ciaran Mulhern put the home side back up by five after that and, although Sligo came with a push again, the late scores of Cian Nicholson (two-pointer), Lang and Dara Mostyn would leave them one short in the end.
