Mayo recorded another impressive win in Division 1 of the Allianz Football League this afternoon by dishing out an emphatic 2-30 to 2-11 defeat to Monaghan in Clones.
Aidan O’Shea and senior debutant Kobe McDonald fired in the goals in what was Andy Moran’s side’s third victory of the campaign and the Farney men’s fourth straight loss.
The visitors had run up a 0-8 to 0-3 lead inside the opening 20 minutes and saw two-pointers from Jordan Flynn and Fergal Boland moving them towards a 0-17 to 0-6 advantage at the half.
Jack McCarron netted a sorely needed Monaghan goal 10 minutes into the restart, but the Westerners kept motoring with points from Ryan O’Donoghue and Paddy Durcan before O’Shea found the net for them on 54 minutes.
Substitute McDonald would hammer in the victors’ second goal 10 minutes later to put it at double scores (2-25 to 1-11) ahead of Robbie Hannarty grabbing a consolation major for the home side towards the end.
