It finished honours even between holders Doon and Na Piarsaigh (1-19 to 2-16) in yesterday evening’s Limerick senior hurling championship first round clash in Kilmallock.
In what was a repeat of last year’s John Daly Cup decider, Doon made the better start to run up a 0-9 to 0-5 lead by the 20th minute.
Piarsaigh hit the post with a penalty four minutes later but would find the net before half-time thanks to Keith Dempsey’s strike, leaving the scoreboard to read 0-10 to 1-7 when the sides went in at the break.

The teams exchanged points early in the restart and in the 34th minute Adam English would smash the sliotar to the net from a 21-yard free to surge Doon back in front.
The points of Kevin Downes and David Dempsey helped the city narrow their deficit down to one, but English would erase those scores with frees ahead of Downes hitting Na Piarsaigh’s second goal of the evening.
Downes and Ronan Lynch shot points to move their team three in front prior to English trimming the difference down to one with his frees and Pat Ryan grabbing the equaliser for Doon from a difficult angle late on.
Elsewhere in the Limerick SHC on Saturday, Ballybrown were 5-18 to 1-23 winners over Ahane while Kildimo/Pallaskenry scored a 3-16 to 0-18 victory against Dromin/Athlacca.
