Walsh sidelined until 2027 after undergoing surgery

Shane Walsh will miss the remainder of Kilmacud Crokes' Dublin SFC campaign after recently undergoing surgery.

Crokes manager David Nestor confirmed to The 42 website that he is resigned to being without the Galway sharpshooter for the rest of the year after having the operation last month. Walsh has been troubled by back, ankle and hamstring problems in recent years, but Nestor didn't say what his latest surgery entailed.

Walsh has missed Crokes' run to the Dublin SFC quarter-final where they will face Castleknock after featuring in four of Galway's five Championship games during the summer. Indeed, his first start of 2026 for the Tribesmen didn't come until their Connacht SFC final defeat to Roscommon in May.

It remains to be seen if he will be available to play under Padraic Joyce's successor when the new inter-county season comes around.
