Donegal and Limerick have joined Galway and Kerry in spending over €2 million on their county teams this year.
Donegal have broken the €2 million barrier for the first time with a record outlay of €2,094,330, which can be largely attributed to the senior footballers’ run to the All-Ireland final. The figure is up from €1,861,737 last year.
Limerick have gone over the €2 million mark for the second time in three years with an expenditure of €2.196 million. But they still posted a surplus of €665,721 thanks in no small part to their hosting of the Munster SHC final against Cork at the TUS Gaelic Grounds.
Galway (€2.3m) and Kerry (€2.1m) were among the other bigger spenders this year as the cost of preparing inter-county teams continues to spiral. The overall figure in 2024 was a staggering €43.35m, but that is set to be surpassed this year.
