Jack Flynn provided more late heroics for Meath this evening as they thwarted Louth’s second-half comeback at Croke Park to win by 1-20 to 0-22.

After his two-pointer at the death proved the difference against Cavan last time out, Flynn sailed over another last-gasp effort from beyond the arc to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat against the Leinster champions here and record the Royals’ third straight win in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League.

A fiery start to this derby encounter saw a row break out before throw-in at HQ, resulting in four players – Meath’s Sean Rafferty and Seamus Lavin and Louth's Ciaran Downey and Sam Mulroy – being black-carded by referee Brendan Griffin 10 seconds in.

Robbie Brennan’s side would go on to dominate for long spells of the first-half after that, with Ruairi Kinsella bagging their goal in the 22nd minute as they moved towards a commanding 1-15 to 0-7 half-time lead.

With the wind at their backs, the Wee County would hit the ground running for the second-half with a Downey point and a couple of two-pointers from Mulroy who saw a penalty saved by Sean Brennan just before the break.

Jordan Morris ended a 16-minute scoreless spell for the Royals with a point, but Louth pushed and, after scores from Craig Lennon, Downey and Ciaran Keenan, they’d eventually get level after Mulroy’s two-point free was backed up by Lennon’s point.

Lennon pushed Gavin Devlin’s men ahead late on but there’d still be time for Flynn to come up with the winner for Meath for the second game in-a-row.
