Westmeath made it maximum points from their first two outings in Division 3 of the Allianz Football League after seeing off Clare by 2-19 to 1-17 in Ennis this afternoon.

A solid first-half display saw Mark McHugh’s side taking in a 1-10 to 0-5 lead at the break, with Ronan Wallace bagging their goal on the eve of half-time, and Matthew Whittaker and Luke Loughlin would add points to their tally after the change of ends.

Alan Sweeney pulled back a goal for Clare and a couple of Aaron Griffin points, along with an Eoin Cleary two-pointer, would trim their deficit to two but the Lake men netted again through Brian Cooney on the hour mark on the way to taking home both points.

In Markievicz Park, Sligo got off the mark in Division 3 by handing Declan Bonner’s Fermanagh side their second loss of the campaign.

Niall Murphy struck the game’s only goal just before the break at the Sligo Town venue where the hosts hit six unanswered points down the home stretch to put a seal on their victory.

In Division 4, London backed up last weekend’s draw with Tipperary by defeating Longford on a 0-19 to 2-8 scoreline at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

Daniel Clarke’s point helped the Exiles edge a 0-8 to 0-7 lead by the end of the first-half and they’d send over the first six points of the second-half before shipping two goals before Ciaran Diver’s point rounded off their victory.

Leitrim got their first win of the league campaign by seeing off Waterford (1-16 to 2-8) in Carrick-on-Shannon, where Ben Guckian found the net in the first-half for the home side, while Tipperary also picked up two points with a 1-13 to 1-9 victory against Antrim in Moneygall where Daithi Hogan’s goal fired them in front early in the second-half.
