The Louth and Down senior footballers will meet in the annual Jim McGeough Cup at the Geraldines GAA grounds on New Year’s Eve.
The local derby, which throws in at 2pm, will bring the curtain down on a memorable year for the Wee County who were crowned Leinster senior football champions for the first time in 68 years. They also won their first Leinster U20 / U21FC title since 1975 and contested the Leinster MFC final against Offaly.
The teams will begin their respective O’Byrne Cup and Dr McKenna Cup campaigns against Longford or Westmeath and Armagh the following week. Fermanagh came out on top against the Wee County in last year’s McGeough Cup match.
