Kieran Donaghy has departed the Armagh senior football coaching set-up after five years in Kieran McGeeney’s backroom team.

The four-time All-Ireland winner said on 'X' that he walks away "full of pride and memories", thanking McGeeney who he said had “took a chance on a rookie coach”.

Donaghy joined the Orchard County’s set-up in 2021 and helped them achieve a second ever Sam Maguire Cup success in 2024 after defeating Galway in the final at Croke Park.

His departure comes two weeks after Armagh’s exit from this year’s All-Ireland SFC race at the hands of Kerry at the quarter-final stage.

In a statement released on Wednesday evening, Armagh GAA said on Donaghy: "His belief in this group never wavered, and his presence helped shape the identity, resilience and ambition of our team," added Armagh.

"Being part of the team that delivered our second all-Ireland title is a legacy that will live long in our hearts, and his influence will be felt for many years to come."
