Reports that Seamus Coleman was set to make a sensational appearance for Killybegs against Four Masters in the opening round of the Donegal SFC yesterday proved unfounded.

Rumours were rife that the 37-year-old Republic of Ireland soccer international, who is currently without a club after leaving Everton after 17 seasons at the end of last season, was set to revive his GAA career after training with the Fishermen recently.

Former St Eunan’s and Donegal midfielder John Haran started the rumour mill when he tweeted: “Massive news reaching me this morning that Seamus Coleman is very possibly starting for Killybegs in @officialdonegal SFC against Four Masters today in Donegal Town.

“Has trained with them over the last couple of weeks. Would be brilliant to see.”

But while Coleman was present in Tirconaill Park, he didn't play any part as Killybegs succumbed to a 0-10 to 0-15 defeat.
