Clonguish moved into the last four of the Longford senior football championship thanks to an emphatic 6-12 to 3-12 victory over Dromard at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park yesterday evening.

A first-half hat-trick from Michael Flynn (3-6) saw the competition’s favourites overcome a slow start to race towards a commanding 4-5 to 0-8 interval lead, with Cormac Flynn bagging the other goal for the victors during the opening period.

Jack Duggan and substitute James Hagan added more goals for Clonguish after the change of ends ahead of Aaron Farrell (2) and Oisin O’Toole raising consolation green flags for Dromard towards the finish.

The other quarter-final clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday saw Rathcline making their goals count in a 3-9 to 1-13 win against Carrickedmond.

A slow start saw Rathcline conceding a penalty which Aidan McGuire converted in the eighth minute and that strike would be the difference between the sides come the break (1-4 to 0-4).

The second-half would be a different story however, with brothers Shane and Oran Kenny both firing in goals for their side and Oran Kenny would add Rathcline’s third goal in the closing stages to cement the victory.

The other two quarter-finals in the Sean Connolly Cup race take place this afternoon with Killoe and Mullinalaghta clashing at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park (2.30pm) before holders Abbeylara meet Colmcille at the same venue (4.30pm).
