Galway manager Cathal Murray was delighted to see his side upset the odds in the All-Ireland senior camogie final.
The Tribeswomen edged out hot favourites and three-in-a-row chasing Cork to claim the O’Duffy Cup – their third under Murray – in a thrilling decider at Croke Park.
“We were given no chance at all,” he pointed out to the media.
“It’s not that we wanted to stop the three-in-a-row. We wanted to win this for us.
“That heartbreak that was there last year, we had to put that to bed. We knew we were good enough. It was a matter of delivering in the big moments, and thank God we did.”
Murray admitted that he had ‘unfinished business’ to care of after last year’s final loss.
“When we look back on it, as management, we felt we got an awful lot right. The players, they just performed unbelievable, and there’s always just that regret that it just wasn’t the right time to walk away.
“Obviously, we’re proved right now.”
Meanwhile, Aoife Donohue has been named as the RTÉ Glen Dimplex Player of the Match after scoring two points in an excellent display.
“I don’t think it’s gonna sink in for a few days,” Donohue told RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey at the team’s victory banquet in the Bonnington Hotel.
“It’s just unreal. Obviously, there was huge disappointment after last year, but at the end of the day, it’s an All-Ireland final. You want to win it.”
