The Munster senior camogie championship final between Cork and Waterford has been called off after both panels said that they would wear shorts for the decider.

Munster Camogie took the decision last night to postpone the game, less than 16 hours before it was scheduled to throw-in at the Tipperary County Camogie Grounds.

Thursday saw the Camogie Association announce that a Special Congress was set to take place on May 22nd to try and resolve the skorts issue.

However, in the meantime, Munster Camogie needed to make a call for their senior provincial decider and released the following statement last night to confirm its postponement:

"As the committee in charge of the Munster Championship, we have reviewed the situation regarding tomorrow's Munster final,” it read.

"As the current camogie rules of play are still in place and the players have indicated they would not be prepared to play the game in skorts, the decision has been made to defer the game in the best interests of all players and officials involved.

"The details of the rescheduled fixture will be released in due course."

The decision from the provincial body has come in for some heavy criticism since, with Waterford legend Michelle Ryan and ex-Cork and Dublin forward Sarah O'Donovan among those to weigh in.

Ryan wrote: “What in the name of God is the sense in this?? Some people need to seriously get out of their own way here and let camogie progress positively. Beyond scandalous to do this to players the day before a Munster final!"
