One of the standout performances of last weekend came from Darragh McGurn in Fermanagh’s Ulster SFC quarter-final against Armagh.

The Belnaleck sharpshooter scored a whopping 1-12 from play at Brewster Park on Saturday evening, but the Ernemen were still soundly beaten on a 2-32 to 1-24 scoreline and must now turn their thoughts to the Tailteann Cup and a first round meeting with Longford on the weekend after next.

“It was phenomenal, some of his kicking was brilliant and to kick 1-11 in the second half, you’d expect to be on the winning side but it wasn’t to be,” Fermanagh manager Declan Bonner said of McGurn’s performance as per Belfast Live.

“Some of the guys coming off the bench as well – Conor O’Hanlon kicked a couple of two-pointers and Brandon Horan kicked one.”

Sadly for Fermanagh, their hopes of causing an upset ended early after the visitors stormed into a 1-15 to 0-4 half-time lead.

“Maybe the shackles were off to a degree, but the first half is still going to rankle us because we thought we were better than that and we should have had 10 or 11 points in that first half at our ease, we created good opportunities but we just didn’t take them,” Bonner continued.

“The first 35 minutes were so frustrating and disappointing but we’ve got to get back up now and get ready for the Tailteann Cup.”
