Clare and Waterford recorded one-point wins in the fourth round of the Munster U20 hurling championship last night (Wednesday).

Clare were 2-15 to 2-14 winners over Tipperary at Semple Stadium, where 2-1 in injury-time saw the Banner lads snatching victory from the jaws of defeat.

Cormac Fitzpatrick’s goal midway through the first-half had helped Tipp to lead by 1-6 to 0-7 at half-time and a Tiarnan Ryan goal had them up by seven with 52 minutes on the clock.

Daniel Costello got a goal back for Clare on the hour mark before Marco Cleary fired to the net two minutes later and, in the end, it was a last-gasp point from Costello that would separate the sides.

In the TUS Gaelic Grounds, Waterford edged Limerick with a 1-18 to 1-17 victory to round off their campaign.

Conor Tobin’s early goal set the tone for the visitors as they went on to build up a 1-10 to 1-5 lead by the end of the first-half.

Matthew Fitzgerald and Jack Cosgrove grabbed early second-half points for Limerick, who totalled 19 wides over the hour, but Davy Comerford hit four unanswered scores at the other end to stretch the Deise lead.

Tobin rounded off Waterford’s tally of 1-18 before Patrick Kearney, Eoin Brosnan and Hugh Flanagan struck late scores for the Shannonsiders that left them a point short in the end as they exited the competition with a third straight defeat.
