Courtwood qualify for first Laois SFC final against Portarlington

Substitute Dylan Keane was the hero as Courtwood reached their first-ever Laois SFC final with a dramatic 1-15 to 2-11 victory over 2023 champions St Joseph’s at Laois Hire O’Moore Park yesterday.

Keane kicked a late two-pointer to send Courtwood through to the decider against Portarlington on Sunday week. Goalkeeper Matthew Byron also scored 0-8 from placed balls, including three two-pointers, after Ryan Little (Courtwood) and Gearoid Lynch (St Joseph’s) had traded first half goals.

Brian Daly’s goal helped St Joseph’s to a three-point lead with six minutes remaining, but Courtwood finished with a flourish to win.

In the other semi-final, holders Portarlington scored nine unanswered points down the home stretch to ease past Graiguecullen on a 1-15 to 0-6 scoreline.

Colm Murphy top-scored with 1-6 for Port’ who will contest to their fifth final in six years.
