Longford GAA has led the tributes to Shane Carrigy, who was laid to rest yesterday following a tragic work accident.

The Holy Trinity Church in Ballinalee was packed to capacity as family, friends, neighbours and the local GAA community paid their final respects to the 45-year-old father-of-two. Heartbreakingly, Shane's father, Michael, also passed away on Saturday.

“Longford GAA are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Shane Carrigy,” the county board said in a heartfelt tribute.

“Shane and the Carrigy family have been partners of Longford GAA for many years through their sponsorship of the U14 Football Championships as well as being the official transport provider to our County Teams.

“He was a true Gael, passionate for all things GAA and active in supporting the GAA Community. He was a lifelong member of the Sean Connolly’s Club, donning the Red and White for many years. Shane also played a significant role in shaping the future of football in the county as a mentor and trainer with Longford GAA Development Squads.

“To his wife Anne, children Kayla and Ryan, his father Michael, his sister, brothers, family, his wide circle of friends and the Seán Connolly’s Club we extend our deepest sympathies.

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.”
