Louth's rise continues as they reach first ever All-Ireland U20FC final

Louth will play Tyrone in the All-Ireland U20 football championship final after clinching a 2-12 to 0-17 victory over Mayo at Glennon Bros Pearse Park.

After the Wee County’s historic Leinster senior championship triumph last Sunday, its U20s are now All-Ireland final bound while the county’s minor footballers are gearing up for a Leinster final date against Offaly in Newbridge on Monday evening (7.30pm).

Yesterday evening saw Fergal Reel’s lads reach their county’s first ever All-Ireland U20FC final thanks to Adam Gillespie’s winner in the fourth minute of injury-time in Longford Town.

Goals from Shane Lennon and Pearse Grimes-Murphy saw Louth take in a 2-5 to 0-8 interval lead, but the Westerners would fight back and a brace of two-pointers from Colm Lynch steered them in front come the 51st minute.

‘Man of the Match’ Grimes-Murphy came up with a huge two-pointer down the home stretch for his team, and while Mayo would get it level a minute into injury-time, there’d still be time for Gillespie to fire over and seal the impressive victory for Louth.
