Kilcar GAA in Donegal says “words cannot describe” the grief in the club and parish following the deaths of 1992 All-Ireland winner James McHugh and his wife Noreen.
Noreen McHugh died in hospital yesterday evening following a road traffic collision in Co Cavan on Monday afternoon which also claimed the life of her husband James.
The couple, both in their 60s, were involved in a collision between a car and a van near Drummallaght on the N3 between Virginia and Cavan Town.
Noreen was seriously injured in the crash and airlifted to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin, but Gardaí confirmed on Tuesday that she had sadly passed away.
A spokesperson for Kilcar GAA said: "Words cannot describe how we, as a club and parish, are feeling following the terrible news of the passing of Noreen McHugh, which came through last night.
"We are absolutely heartbroken for Eoin and Emma, and for the entire McHugh and O’Donnell families.
"Our thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies are with them all at this incredibly difficult and unimaginable time."
