Tipperary got up and running in Division 1A of the Allianz Hurling League with a 1-21 to 1-16 win against Galway at rain-soaked FBD Semple Stadium this evening.
Darragh Stakelum’s goal in the 64th minute pushed the All-Ireland champions three in front and, from there, they wouldn’t look back as the points of Jake Morris (2) and Seamus Kennedy down the home stretch put a seal on their first-round victory.
After the sides went in on 0-9 apiece at the interval, points from Andrew Ormond and Darragh McCarthy nudged Tipp ahead again but Galway would respond with a Jason Rabbitte point before hitting the jackpot.
Rory Burke’s goal put the Tribesmen in front in the 40th minute and the teams would go tit for that over the next 20 minutes or so until Conor Stakelum’s point edged Liam Cahill’s men back ahead.
Burke would square the sides for the last time in the 62nd minutes, with a cool finish from Darragh Stakelum two minutes later (watch it below) giving the home side the advantage again and they wouldn’t relinquish it.
