Ballygunner landed their sixth Munster club senior hurling championship title with an empathic 0-21 to 1-9 win over Éire Óg Ennis at FBD Semple Stadium this afternoon.

The Waterford kingpins moved to the top of the roll of honour list in the southern province after a dominant first-half display against their Clare opponents saw them leading by 0-12 to 0-4 at the halfway stages in Thurles.

Dessie Hutchinson and Pauric Mahony led the way in the scoring stakes during the opening period for the Gunners and they’d extend their advantage into double figures early in the restart thanks to scores from Patrick Fitzgerald and Mahony (free).

Danny Russell and Clare star Shane O’Donnell got back some sorely needed points Éire Óg afterwards, but they’d fall 10 behind as Ballygunner kept their foot firmly on the throttle towards another Munster success.

Mahony’s free in the 52nd minute made it 0-20 to 0-9, with Russell grabbing a consolation goal for the Ennis men six minutes later as Ballygunner marched on to an All-Ireland semi-final date against either Ballyhale Shamrocks (Kilkenny) or St Martin’s in a fortnight’s time.
