My views are well documented about these micky mouse competitions so what have we learnt is more important for Mr Hyland and CO ??
They should have a fair idea who can hack it for whats important coming up next week or so when we are at the business end of things the National League division 2 we must consolidate our status there thats our priority forget about anything else for now????

O connor had a bad day at the office. Nothing stuck to him. Conor moynagh and ciaran brady played really well. Killian clarke carried the ball forward well but still given away too many frees with stupid lazy tackles. Johnston played well when introduced. Keating needs more match time. Cant see the point of galligan in goals any more. He doesn't seem to be able to handle the pressure of taking long range frees. Missed 2 today and some of his distribution was bad. We really missed martin reilly.

Wouldn't be concerned about loss today there was training yesterday so game obviously wasn't a priority.

Time now to concentrate on league and getting promotion and then to push on and win Ulster title.

I agree that Galligan is not the best goalkeeper. I think that the fad of goalkeepers kicking 45s should be abolished it takes too much time and nobody bar Cluxton scores the majority of them.
I think Cavan were poor today and we will struggle big time in the league. We have nobody and I mean nobody who can take a long range score. Our defence is too porous and too prone to fouling. Seeing Givney , Mc Kiernan,Keating and Johnston all back and yet no great scoring threat just fills me with dread for the year ahead.
Our Management were glued to the ground and didn't seem to react to what was going on at all. At one point a player came over to them to give them instructions. A lot of work to be done.

Ah it was clear from the start today that Cavan had no real interest in winning the match today,, it was a weak starting team , probably better off than playing Tyrone a week before we meet in the league. What I did notice in the game today is that we don't seem to have an over all game plan yet or everyone on the same page. you got groups of players who is used to playing with each other from u21 and they link up great together and it works. But there is 3 or 4 different groups that needs to be on the same game plan and play as a unit

Hi all,
listening in on radio seems like of the new guys Moynagh and faulkner done well .gearoid turned over some good ball and chipped in as usual,seemed Derry were faster to the 50/50 ball and seemed to steamroll out of defence at speed in numbers, this is what i hoped we could achieve this year with fast ball to the forward line and support arriving from our wing backs if needed, steady free taker is badly needed, sends an encouraging signal to the team knowing that a foul won can punish the oppositon, lot more intensity needed next day out against Tyrone

I don't think our problems are anything to do with freetaking. Keating and Johnston are no threat around the middle of the pitch. Also we never won a Derry kickouts and won very few of our own. Management seem clueless to what's going on around mid game. There will be a lot tougher tests than that along the way this year. There's no forward game plan whatsoever .

Derry were very good going forward and kicked some monster points from difficult positions and we couldn't match it. They caused us a lot of problems running at us and Rory Dunne's absence really weakens our full back line. We missed Martin Reilly too.

I thought Ciaran Brady was excellent, as was Conor Moynagh and both should be in line for league starts. Some of the other new guys on the team who haven't played much county football were obviously lost with the higher tempo of yesterday's game. Enda Henry has shown enough to be kept on the League panel and Faulkner too.

Gearoid played well, Johnston looked lively when he came on. Thought management left O'Connor on for too long when nothing was going right for him and the game was slipping away. Good to see that we took the game to Derry well and got the goal back instead of folding and taking a hammering.

Tyrone up next, doesn't get any easier!!

Left O Connor on too long.. I watched Marquee Forwards having complete stinkers in the league & various early competitions. If the management think he needs game time then that's why he was left on. Because come championship he ll stand up & be counted. You never seen McGuinness haulin his bro inlaw off?

Great to see Keating there. Play him every game until hes fit. Mossie was a miss in the middle let me add. Brady & Faulkner maybe the tall lad from Ballymchugh are the 3 new players worth keeping nobody else lit the thing up

Yes your points about the keeper situation needs to be underlined once & for all. galligan should know himself hes a good outfield player & should appreciate that we appreciate that. Square pins round holes etc etc

So, lads now that the McKenna Cup has ended for us and we have seen 36 or 37 players used , what do we think the starting starting 15 should be for the league and or what do we think the match day quad should be for the first game v Tyrone. Make no mistake this will be a masive step-up from what was happening since Christmas.

S Goldrick i would agree 100% with that start up, i see you have no niall mcdermott in there and to be honest we would be better off. i dont think he offers much to the squad. however i would have OC on the bench, he's liable to get a goal and few points when on form

yes it is strange what the admin sometimes don't post. The last 2 posts that were rejected on me contained these 2 phrases which I can only assume was the reason why they didn't get past the strict admin code (one post was actually edited to remove the line containing "The prodigal Son" and the other post contained the phrase "Devil's Advocate". perhaps they don't like biblical references.

Do you ever go to watch games at all how can you say N. McDermott has nothing to offer the squad. Thank god you are not picking the players going forward. If you were at the university match he was all over the park looking for or laying off the ball come on be fair on the lad.

Again I support the team picked by S Goldrick, there is a lot of experience there for this crucial opener to the League and in particular playing away in fortress Omagh.
I am good admirer of Niall Mc Dermott's value to the team in recent years but feel in the 3 opening games this season he is not 100% match fit, getting caught in possession,spilling balls and first touch poor. I have no doubt he will get stronger during the league so a spell on the bench is no harm at this time. Not sure of Fergal Flanagan at FB will need plenty of protection. With the right ball played into that FF line we could cause a major surprise like Monaghan did last season in Omagh. Huge games from Reilly/Mackie and McVitty for the above result to happen!!
