Anyone at the Armagh game Today. 4 reds and a black. Was it a dirty game. Who played well for Cavan.

Cavan had a good win seeing as they were down to 13 players after 20 minutes. Very few people including myself seem to have seen what Givney did though one Cavan supporter said that the Armagh player had fouled Givney in the square and we should have been given a penalty. The umpire drew the refs attention to whatever Givney did and he was given a straight red.
The Hayes one seems to have been that he swung back at him and again the linesman reported to the ref.
There were a coupe of schemozzles after this and the ref didn't seem to be keen on dealing with Armagh players until the last quarter when he could no longer ignore their constant fouling.
Killian Brady stupidly got a red card for a strike in ten last minute when the match was truly won.
Cavan played a more direct style of football than usual and seemed to be able to get scores more easily.
It was good to see Alan o Mara back in goals , he does inspire more confidence than some of his predecessors.
Ciaran Brady and Dara mc Aveety played well. Buchanan was hardworking.
Martin Reilly Chris Conroy and Niall Mc Dermott were good. Tom Hayes did well when introduced as a sub.
Armagh were poor and missed a lot of chances. They never looked like winning even when they had two extra men .

Thanks Marita,

it's truly amazing to see all the rubbish spouted on here during the year and yet when it actually comes to a match
none of the usual suspects have anything to say at all. :)

admin, could you change the title of the thread to 2016 instead of 2015 (apologies my mistake).

Positive - it is good to get a win especially since we are going to come up against them on more important days than yesterday. Negative - Our discipline seems to have let us down again with 3 sent off. We will have to become cuter, opposition will target this weakness which cost us games last year. I really hope we improve on that front this year. Can we play hard but disciplined without losing the plot regardless of the provocation ??
Positive - I see Geezer was whinging to media about Cavan fouling which makes me smile

Thanks Marita, couldent make it but listened in to the commentary on We are Cavan .com. Well done Paul and the other lads for keeping the fans up to date.
Yes the negative boys seem to run and hide when a good result comes along, but I suppose every county has them !!!!
I am not a Terry Hyland cheerleader but I will always respect what the man has done for my native county. Everybody makes mistakes but its all about learning from these mistakes and moving forward.

Yesterday seemed to be a great spirited display and delighted to see some of the new lads playing so well. With some lads leaving the panel isent it good to see new lads come in and seem just as good.

The lynchpin of the team (as it always should be) seemed to be the half back line of Ciaran Brady, Niall Murray and Dara Mc Veety. For young players (21, 24,22) they seem to have all the attributes of pace, skill and intelligence.
Another plus was the display of Liam Buchanan at midfield who seemed to command the area. With Gearoid, Givney and Argue to come back in there we have a bit of power in the middle now at last.
Agree we have to get our discipline sorted out because it will cost us games in the future. Agression is important but must be controlled. McGeeney wouldent know anything about fouling and rough play !!!!
And great to have Alan O Mara back in the sticks and im sure Seanie will be a big asset too, to the younger forwards like Tom Hayes. They can only get better.
Also good to see the u21's get off to a winning start on Sat.

Tremendous display from Cavan v Armagh. The Ulster title should now be our goal and after that who knows what could be achieved. Dare one dream of CROKER in September.

Nice to get off to a good start but lets not embarrass ourselves with talk of ulster titles after winning a McKenna cup game in early January.
Some of the younger lads will be putting their hand up now and its time. With the half back line impressing, I wonder if he plans to play McVeety there this year? If so, would that be an indication of whats to come? i.E. attacking half back line with pace. If so, then perhaps the direct football that we all would like to see more off may not happen. A good blend of both can be very effective so lets see what happens.
We seem to have a few options around the middle but in my experience, the team starting the McKenna cup first round can be a long way off the team that starts the first round of the championship.
Any word on who is captain this year?

I don't know if I am classed as one of those that spout rubbish but please this is the McKenna cup it's a nothing competition and a trial period to see certain players. All ready people like diver are even talking about the Ulster title and sam. I was at the match Sunday diver and my reply to you is dream on. Will we stay in division two well time will tell my view for what it's worth we will be a division three team after the league and knocked out the first round of Ulster come the business end of things.

Its like this - the majority of those young lads will warm the bench once the McK cup is finished. Like last year, the league is the only competition that will give some sort of indication of where were are, but lets not forget, Terry has had the last 4 yrs to make a difference, and whilst he did for the first year or so, last season we went backwards and are starting all over again, and in my opinion, Terry is not the man to bring this County forward. The whole club league and championship needs a complete overhaul, and this thing of mollycoddling county players and taking them away from their clubs needs to stop. You only need to look at the successes of Dublin and Kilkenny, where there players are released to their clubs without issue.
Young Conroy played a few McKenna Cup games last season, and was on the bench for the rest, surely he should have been released to play for Lavey in the Breffni League.
On another note, they got rid of the Breffni league and are now proposing a Spring league...you couldn't make it up!

What's the problem with the Spring League Dean?

what's the benefit of it Skelling? its just another name for the Breffni League - its called the Spring league and will probably go well into the Summer as usual!
How about concern for player burnout? why not give players a rest, start the ACFL in March and finish it in May - run the championship from May to July, and let players have a rest thereafter, let them go on their holidays and enjoy life!
In addition, what benefit is it to teams when they have to play without their County Seniors, U21s and minors?

I assume since you're criticising it that you know what format it will take, how many games there will be etc?

If you fill me in on that I'll form an opinion on it. Do you know these details?

It's sad that people are losing the run of themselves because we've won a meaningless game in January. At the end of these players careers, nobody will ask them how many McKenna cups they've won, and no matter how much certain people talk up this competition, that is the simple reality.

We have a habit of doing well in this competition the last two years only to flop badly come Summertime.

I'd imagine the refrence to Ulster or Sam was tongue in cheek. Seems like we're going back to the ultra defensive game plan of a few years ago. At least it was successful.

Can anyone tell me who are the fourteen members of last year's squad that have not committed for 2015

Lads Keating is back I see. Good to see it, hopefully he's utilised properly this time.

Also it said in the same article that we are down 14 players from last years squad? Where did they pull that number from? Is James McEnroe back lads?

As per the other posters - who are the 14 we are missing from last years panel ..?

I know of martin dunne, mark mckeever, ronan flanagan & damien oreilly and 2 of those are retiring so who are the other 10 ..?

Still great to see Keating back and with givney and seanie back, i think we are stronger than last year - should be well capable of staying in div 2 and perhaps fighting for promotion as we have 4 home games (compared with 3 last year) and we should be beating armagh (who are without jamie clarke) at home in may ...
